The unusual, the noteworthy, the bizarre: motorcycle stuff we found on eBay
Gotta' admit... I'd never even
heard of a Pannonia before I saw this auction. But with a starting bid of $65,000 it must be pretty cool!
Well, turns out it is pretty cool. It's actually an entire collection of Hungarian motorcycles sold under the names Pannonia and Csepel. They range from 1948 to 1974 models, mostly 250cc and some have sidecars.
All this from the land of paprika. Who knew?

The unusual, the noteworthy, the bizarre: motorcycle stuff we found on eBay
This week's pick definitely falls under the bizarre category.
I don't really know why the hell anyone would want to have lights inside their helmet, but the folks at
Lawst Cawz must have thought it was a good idea.
Maybe I'm too old? The makers claim they are safe and "a faint glow" will be visible when your visor is closed. I don't know about you, but a faint glow constitutes a distraction in my book.
But if you can't live another minute until you have glowing LED lights inside your helmet, then get thee to eBay! A pair in the color of your choice will set you back $40. And a faint glow.

This week's pick is a radically modded bagger from North Carolina. It's an H-D Road King Custom with one stylin' strange paint job. Add a blue jean-wearin' hottie and what more could you ask for?
But wait there's more!
Wha... huh?!? Buy this puppy
right now and you'll get a matching guitar. That's right... a fitting end to your faded jeans, Toby Keith-playin', pickup drivin' kind of day.

It's Easier Than Ever to Buy or Sell a Bike
Shopping for a used car or motorcycle?
If you typically avoid
eBay Motors
fearing the long-distance deal, shipping fiasco or scary escrow services, you might want to reconsider. All that may soon be a thing of the past. The online marketplace has recently made some drastic changes to accommodate local buyers and sellers. In fact, you can even list your vehicle for free!
Right now eBay is offering registered users up to six classifieds per year for no listing fee. That means you can list your motorcycle, car, truck, SUV, four-wheeler or personal watercraft locally or nationally for free. You don't even have to pay the "successful listing fee" unless you list more than four vehicles. This special offer is being advertised as available through July 15, 2009.
Improvements have been made for buyers too. eBay's new Get Local initiative makes localized searches for used bikes and cars easier and more intuitive. Local dealers mix it up also, just in case you
might want to consider a shiny, new ride instead. Major metropolitan areas have special landing pages, or you can search by zip code to locate vehicles in a 100 mile radius (you can zero it in tighter if you like).
ConclusionSo far we are liking the changes on
eBay Motors. My one complaint might be it's a little too "car-centric." But that's my perennial gripe with most online classifieds. eBay has made a smart move by recognizing the value of classifieds. A large percentage of auction listings were nothing more than classifieds. By making these changes eBay seems to be acknowledging that fact and tuning into user's needs. The big question comes after that promotional period ends: How much?

The unusual, the noteworthy, the bizarre: motorcycle stuff we found on eBayThat's right: Bat Cycle. As in Batman- the Sixties TV series, not the movie.

This is actually the second Batcycle that appeared in the show (the first one was a Harley with a sidecar). But this is the one with the go-kart for Robin to launch off on his own adventures. This is the Batcycle that everyone remembers!
Underneath all that gadgetry is a 1966 Yamaha Catalina (a fun little bike in its own right according to
Classic Japanese Motorcycles)

attached to a sidecar with a fully functional, standalone 50cc go kart. It's located in New Jersey now and the seller claims it's in very good condition. Opening bid: $29,500.
If that's out of your price range maybe you'd prefer something smaller, like the
Hot Wheels TV Series Batcycle?

Either way, here's a link to the auction...

eBay Store Spotlight: Rodolpho Moto
Car nuts can find automotive models most anywhere- in fact, almost everywhere. Even the local convenience store will stock up on diecast model cars around the holidays. But miniatures of the two-wheeled variety can be trickier to find. Especially if you're on a quest for a particular bike.

That's why we were excited to discover an eBay Store dedicated to nothing but model motorcycles! Rodolpho Moto is run by an avid motorcycle model collector, Rodolpho Moraes, whose collection totals over 1300. Since early 2006 he's been selling motorcycle models on eBay. His selection caters to any style, any taste, any brand- any bike you want in small scale.
"A friend.. told me about Ebay, and I remember he said 'You can find anything, on Ebay,'" Rodolpho told us. "I looked and found hundreds of different models. So little by little I started to buy and sell bikes online just to pay my own collection." Sounds like most motorcycle collectors I know!
Most of these little bikes are 1/18 scale pre-built models. It's a common scale among collectors and works out to an overall length around 4" to 5" for most bikes. Rodolpho is working on expanding the selection to include more 1/24 and the larger 1/12 scale motorcycles.

Rodolpho Moto carries a wide variety of models- all brands, shapes and styles. You'll find official Harley Davidson collectibles, motocrossers, World Superbike racers, X Games toys and even a few promo and commemorative issues. Today we spotted makes from BMW to Yamaha to Aprilia to Norton, and everything in between.
Prices are quite moderate. Most of the models are in the $10 to $12 range, with some as high as $26. And shipping is quite reasonable (something that has become a real problem on eBay lately). Orders are shipped from Webster, MA and Rodopho also offers international delivery for customers outside the U.S.

Custom choppers are a dime a dozen these days on eBay. Figuratively speaking that is.
I guess a dime doesn't buy much. But occasionally one of these long-chassis handbuilts comes along that catches our attention. This week's featured auction is a good example. And no, the blonde was not part of the selection criteria.
The bike sports a 131 inch H & L motor and a 6-speed Baker transmission. The entire frame is chrome and includes some really nifty details. Check the photos on the auction- very cool.

The unusual, the noteworthy, the bizarre: motorcycle stuff we found on eBayThis week we discovered an Italian flying saucer grounded in Austin, Texas.
The red MV Agusta is a 175 CSS, more commonly known as the "disco volante," or flying saucer. That unique fuel tank certainly stands out in a crowd.

According to the book,
Moto MV Agusta
, the company was originally a subsidiary of the Italian aircraft manufacturer Agusta. They began building bikes after World War Two and, curiously enough, named their first two-wheeler the "Vespa 98." After learning that Piaggio (another aviation company turned motorbike factory) had already used the name, MV shortened it to "98." Thus the Italian word for
wasp would eventually become synonymous for scooter.

The unusual, the noteworthy, the bizarre: motorcycle stuff we found on eBayThis week's pick might be considered a little too utilitarian for some tastes. But it's the holidays so something lighthearted seemed appropriate. Surprisingly we all agreed the GO-4 was just unique enough to earn our coveted award.

When I asked the staff why they picked the tiny trike they offered reasons like...
Perfect toy run vehicle.
I want to drive it on my private island.
It looks like something from that TV show,
Space 1999.
It reminds me of those Cushmans the mailman used to drive around in.
It's called a Go
4, yet it only has
3 wheels.
Seriously, whatever the reason- this little beauty is up for auction! It's located in Fort Worth, Texas- where they must take their parking enforcement very seriously.
The Go-4 is built in Canada and powered by a 1 liter Hyundai engine. Inside you'll find a plush seat (but only one) and an extremely optimistic 120 mph speedometer. It shows 18k miles on the clock, but doesn't mention if they're highway miles. Ahem.

The unusual, the noteworthy, the bizarre: motorcycle stuff we found on eBayHere's a true American classic, most deserving of our pick of the week on this most American of holidays.

This is a `48 Indian, located in the heartland and ready to ride. It even comes with a pedigree- this bike was featured in the June 1999 issue of
American Iron magazine.

Nobody will mistake this for a new "retro" cruiser- this bike looks the part. It has some knicks and scrapes. But the bike is very original and only shows 37k miles on the clock. The leather is original and has that beautiful patina to prove it. It looks like a fine example of a true American classic.

As a youngster in the Seventies I remember lusting for the exotic machinery pictured in the pages of glossy magazines. The bright orange Italian bikes from Laverda always fascinated me. The unusual, the noteworthy, the bizarre: motorcycle stuff we found on eBayNow here's a find on the auction block that is
really unusual.
The extremely rare Munch Mammoth was the product of one man's dream to build a world-class superbike. Built around a 1200cc NSU automobile engine, the Mammoth truly was a mammoth by 1960's standards. While never considered nimble, the Munch could claim the title of fastest production motorcycle. Even though that "production" was pretty small compared to British or Japanese numbers at the time.

The example on eBay is a German bike now registered in the US. It is a 1972 model showing 14k miles. The seller, located in St. Louis, has even included a short video of the bike touring around the block.

Lately a plague of Chinese motorcycles have swept eBay. Most of these are small displacement dirt bikes and scooters, but some are clones of World War Two-era German bikes. Just as the Russians copied the venerable boxers with their Ural, so have the Chinese. Many misleading auctions "suggest" these bikes are actually vintage German artifacts when in fact they're only a few weeks old.
So it's refreshing to stumble across this gem, which appears to be a genuine BMW hack from Germany. The seller claims it was abandoned in Austria and has less than 300 miles on it. It even includes the rider's original helmet!
