eBay Gets Local, Offers Free Vehicle Listings

It's Easier Than Ever to Buy or Sell a Bike

Find whatever you want on eBay...Shopping for a used car or motorcycle?

If you typically avoid eBay Motors fearing the long-distance deal, shipping fiasco or scary escrow services, you might want to reconsider. All that may soon be a thing of the past. The online marketplace has recently made some drastic changes to accommodate local buyers and sellers. In fact, you can even list your vehicle for free!

Right now eBay is offering registered users up to six classifieds per year for no listing fee. That means you can list your motorcycle, car, truck, SUV, four-wheeler or personal watercraft locally or nationally for free. You don't even have to pay the "successful listing fee" unless you list more than four vehicles. This special offer is being advertised as available through July 15, 2009.

Improvements have been made for buyers too. eBay's new Get Local initiative makes localized searches for used bikes and cars easier and more intuitive. Local dealers mix it up also, just in case you might want to consider a shiny, new ride instead. Major metropolitan areas have special landing pages, or you can search by zip code to locate vehicles in a 100 mile radius (you can zero it in tighter if you like).

Conclusion
So far we are liking the changes on eBay Motors. My one complaint might be it's a little too "car-centric." But that's my perennial gripe with most online classifieds. eBay has made a smart move by recognizing the value of classifieds. A large percentage of auction listings were nothing more than classifieds. By making these changes eBay seems to be acknowledging that fact and tuning into user's needs. The big question comes after that promotional period ends: How much?

"You see things vacationing on a motorcycle in a way that is completely different from any other. In a car you're always in a compartment, and because you're used to it you don't realize that through that car window everything you see is just more TV. You're a passive observer and it is all moving by you boringly in a frame."
